BioMed Realty has entered into a joint venture to develop the Fairview Research Center, a five-story, 94,000 square-foot laboratory facility on the southeast corner of Fairview Avenue North and Mercer Street, in the South Lake Union area of Seattle. South Lake Union is home to several of the region’s preeminent research institutions, including the University of Washington School of Medicine, the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Seattle Biomedical Research Institute, Children’s Hospital and Merck Pharmaceuticals. The building has been designed to meet the specific criteria of life science organizations while adhering to the principles of sustainable design, allowing it to qualify for a Silver Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification.
